NEW YEARS’ ANNOUNCEMENTS

Happy New Year, everyone! We at Houston Fiber Fest are excited to welcome 2019 and super excited about presenting the 5th annual edition of Houston’s own Fiber festival this summer. Houston Fiber Fest will take place June 21-23, 2019 (mark your calendars), and it is shaping up to be the biggest and–we hope–the best yet!

Today, we are very pleased to share with you the lineup of nationally recognized teachers who will be joining us this year:

Cat Bordhi — This innovative teacher, author, and designer famously followed her immense curiosity about knitting traditions to Perú to compare techniques with indigenous knitters. Cat Bordhi is also a well-loved teacher, who brings out the best in her students. She regularly holds workshops for in-depth instruction on the techniques she has developed and hosts traveling tours that examine the textile traditions of far-flung destinations, from South America to Iceland. And now she’s coming to Houston!

Margaret Radcliffe — Well known as the author of the bestselling Knitting Answer Book and other titles, Margaret Radcliffe specializes in exploring knitting techniques in depth. She is also a designer whose garments look impressively complicated while relying on the simplest techniques. She has taught at Stitches Expos, The Madrona Fiberarts Winter Retreat, and many other venue and is acclaimed for her ability to help all knitters to become more independent and creative. And she’s coming to Houston!

Laura Nelkin — A designer currently focused on interesting garment construction and lace, especially beaded lace, Laura Nelkin is known for fun designs that inspire us to think about knitting in new ways. She travels around the country to teach her favorite techniques and leads knitting tours abroad. And she, too, is coming to Houston!

In addition, we’ll have a roster of local and regional teachers rounding out the class offerings with sessions in knitting, crochet, and needle felting. The complete 2019 class schedule will be announced right here on the HFF homepage on January 5, 2019, so check back soon to see all the details.

We’d also like to ask for the community’s help in supporting the Alzheimer’s Association, our charity for 2019. We will be collecting knitted, crocheted, or sewn TwiddleMuffs, and donors will be entered into a drawing for a special raffle prize! Visit our CHARITY page for full details and pattern suggestions.

Best wishes for a fabulous and fiber-filled new year!
